While Reuben Foster recovers from a high-ankle sprain, the 49ers went outside the building and onto the Minnesota Vikings practice squad to shore up the linebacker unit.

Elijah Lee got signed off the Vikings practice squad Wednesday, Minnesota announced.

A corresponding roster move could come in the reported release of offensive lineman John Theus, a fifth-round draft pick last year who was inactive for the 49ers’ season-opening loss Sunday.

The 49ers have yet to announce any roster moves Wednesday; they won’t confirm reports of player acquisitions until medical exams are passed.

Lee was among the 49ers’ pre-draft visitors before the Vikings selected him in the seventh round and eventually put him on their practice squad. A Kansas State product, Lee is 6-foot-2, 229 pounds. He was not invited the NFL scouting combine.
