WALNUT CREEK — The unhealthy air quality conditions brought about by smoke from the North Bay wildfires are prompting changes in the Community Service Day schedule Oct. 14, with many of the outdoor projects postponed, and a few canceled.

Residents who signed up for projects that have been postponed to Oct. 21 or Oct. 28 will be sent more details in the next few days, and given opportunity to change events.

Saturday is the seventh annual Community Service Day, in which 100 or more community groups provide a project, anything from distributing emergency response information to cleanup and maintenance work at local nonprofits and schools. There were more than 50 projects set for this year, and about 1,400 people expected to take part.
