SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s top federal law enforcer will serve in a leadership role on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced on Tuesday that Utah U.S. Attorney John Huber will be the panel’s vice chairman. Huber is among nine U.S. attorneys named to fill two-year terms on the committee.

“These U.S. attorneys will play an important role in carrying out the Department of Justice’s mission to reduce violent crime, combat transnational criminal organizations, secure our southern border, end the devastating opioid crisis and return to the rule of law,” Sessions said.

Huber said he’s honored to serve with his colleagues.

“These men are leaders of the highest caliber and are deeply committed to serving our great nation. This appointment will give Utah an important voice in Department of Justice initiatives and priorities,” he said.

Created in 1973, the committee provides advice and counsel to the attorney general on policy, procedure and management impacting U.S. attorneys offices.
