In the meantime, community groups around the country that provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs are begging Congress for $18 million in funds to help about two million low-income Americans file their income taxes and bring tax refund money back into their communities.

What’s the better budget choice: Help an insecure man feed his ego or help an additional 1.3 million families dutifully file their taxes and spend their refunds to stimulate their local economy? These budget choices matter.
