OAKLAND — The two people found fatally shot Sunday morning in a Rockridge home, in what police called a murder-suicide, were husband and wife, authorities said Monday.

Police said Mark Williams, 64, first shot his wife, Cheryl Williams, 73, about 10:15 a.m. Sunday inside their two-story house in the 5800 block of Keith Avenue and then shot himself as police were about to enter the home.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Monday they don’t have a motive yet for the deadly shootings and that they knew little about the couple.

Police were told they had no children.

A public records check showed the Williams had lived at the house since the 1980s but it was not known how long they had been married or what their occupations were.

A neighbor was reached by phone but said he did not know them that well.

The house is just a few blocks from the College Avenue shopping area and the Rockridge BART Station. It is on a one-way residential street that is adjacent to Highway 24.

The street was shut down for several hours while police investigated.
