A 53-year-old Bayonne man has been charged with striking a woman in the head with a pipe during an attack following an argument last week.

JERSEY CITY — A 53-year-old Bayonne man has been charged with striking a woman in the head with a pipe during an attack following an argument last week.

Marc. A Manno, of West 34th Street, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and weapons offenses related to the metal pipe in connection to Wednesday’s incident, according to a criminal complaint.

The complaint alleges that Manno punched the woman following the verbal dispute and when she said she was going to call police he struck her in the back of the head with the pipe.

Responding officers said they saw the woman’s injury and recovered the pipe, according to the complaint, which also states the woman did not seek medical treatment.

Manno said he is being treated for advanced cancer when he made his first appearance on the charges Thursday in Criminal Justice Reform Court in Jersey City via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny. The judge said the jail would be notified of his medical needs.

At the hearing, the state moved to detain him through the course of his prosecution and a detention hearing is scheduled for today.
