SAN RAMON — An old staple, the national anthem, was missing from the last California High School student rally and may not be coming back anytime soon.
Student leadership at the school pulled the Star-Spangled Banner from its January rally in protest of what it says are racist lyrics in unsung verses of the song. The story was first reported by The Californian, the student newspaper.
ABC7 reported that not everybody at the school is happy about the decision.
School district officials were not available immediately Tuesday morning to comment.
Check back for updates.
