The new fulfillment center in Burlington County is expected to open next year
Online retailer Amazon has announced plans for it’s ninth massive fulfillment center in New Jersey, adding another 600 jobs for one of the state’s largest employers.
The new fulfillment center will open next year on commercial property in the 1100 block of East Pearl Street in Burlington.
The “1-million square foot facility will support customer fulfillment and join our network of fulfillment centers across the state of New Jersey,” Amazon spokeswoman Rachael Lighty said in a statement.
The timeline for opening the Burlington fulfillment center has not yet been announced, Lighty said.
Amazon first came to New Jersey in 2012 and has about 16,000 employees in facilities located in Avenel, Carteret, Cranbury, Edison, Florence, Logan and Robbinsville.
The company announced in March plans to build a 650,000-square-foot fulfillment center in West Deptford. That facility will employ 1,000 people when it opens.

Employees at the fulfillment centers will pick, pack and ship items at the distribution center to customers across the Northeast, Lighty said.
As with other Amazon facilities, the Burlington site was chosen based on a variety of factors, Lighty said.
“Some of those factors include a dedicated workforce who will raise the bar on being customer obsessed as well as great local support,” Lighty said. “We’ve found both in Burlington.”
Lighty said Amazon looks “forward to building relationships and being a good employer and community neighbor for years to come.”
Full-time Amazon employees receive competitive wages, health insurance, 401(k) and company stock options that start on their first day of employment, Lighty said.
The company also offers maternity and parental leave benefits for full-time employees, along with access to programs that pay for college courses, Lighty said.
