SALT LAKE CITY — The U.S. Marshals Service is searching for a Mississippi man who is wanted for the violent murder of his wife there and is now believed to be in the Salt Lake City area.

A reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of Charles Eugene Bowman, 61, according to a statement from the marshals.

His wife, 61-year-old Kathleen Bowman, was last seen alive on May 17, the statement said. Her remains were found on the couple’s property.

Charles Eugene Bowman, of Mississippi, is suspected of killing his wife in Mississippi and was last seen Friday camping six miles west of Vernal, Utah, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Surveillance video from the area of 3300 South and 300 West in Salt Lake City from Saturday shows Bowman leaving a motel and driving a 2006 Nissan Maxima with a handicap Mississippi license plate, D2745, officials said.

Cameras from Monday recorded him in downtown Salt Lake City wearing a black U.S. Navy hat with yellow lettering, sunglasses and a blue polo shirt, according to officials.

The U.S. Marshals Service said Bowman might be staying in hotels in and around Salt Lake and in campgrounds within an hour of the city.

Bowman is believed to be armed and dangerous, according to officials, and anyone who sees him is cautioned not to approach.
