The 46-year-old’s car struck the back of a truck

Authorities have identified the man killed in a Thursday morning crash on Interstate 80 in Morris County as a Rockland County, New York resident.

Eric Velez, 46, was driving west on I-80 in Parsippany around 4 a.m. when he rear-ended a truck stopped in the right lane as part of a mobile construction detail, State Police said.

Velez, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:42 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.

The crash resulted in heavy delays during the morning commute as police closed the right and center westbound lanes near milepost 46.6.
