This in from The Fourth Period, more of that site’s speculation about the Edmonton Oilers wanting to trade away goalie Cam Talbot: “The Edmonton Oilers are believed to be scouring the League in hopes of finding a new No.1 goaltender, TFP has learned, and current starter Cam Talbot’s days with the club may be coming to an end. Talbot was made available last season (despite having a no-movement clause), along with defenceman Oscar Klefbom, as TFP had first reported at the time, and it’s believed he’s once again in play. It’s unclear whom Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli is specifically targeting, though with reports suggesting Sergei Bobrovsky might not sign an extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets, it’s possible he inquires about the netminder’s availability.”
This isn’t the first time that The Fourth Period has beat the Cam Talbot trade drum loudly. As they themselves mention — indeed claiming it as as a statement of fact! — Talbot was “made available” last June. Here is what TFP wrote at the time: “The Edmonton Oilers are entertaining trade calls for goaltender Cam Talbot, TFP has learned, a situation that occurred during the regular-season, prior to the trade deadline, multiple sources said. Talbot, 30, has one-year remaining on his contract and currently owns a no-movement clause through July 1, upon which he can list 10 teams he could accept a trade to. According to a source close to the situation, Talbot has been asked to provide his list of 10 teams he’d be willing to sign off on a trade for. It’s speculated the Carolina Hurricanes have been in talks with Edmonton about Nugent-Hopkins and Talbot, with defenceman Justin Faulk and winger Jeff Skinner believed to be discussed.”
In June 2016, The Fourth Period floated a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for Jonas Brodin scenario. Both players are still with their same teams.
In February 2015, The Fourth Period had the Oilers interested in Tyler Bozak of the Leafs. Bozak stayed with the Leafs until he left as a free agent this past summer.
I pay zero attention to Hockeybuzz and its trade rumours and I’m now considering putting The Fourth Period on that same “no attention” list, at least when it comes to the Oilers. They have a long history of reporting rumours about the Oilers that don’t sound likely and don’t come to pass. Maybe …read more
