The province has announced the next steps in a program that aims to give Indigenous communities in Alberta access to safe drinking water.

The First Nations Regional Drinking Water Tie-in Program is part of the $100 million in funding set out in Budget 2017 to improve drinking water in Indigenous communities over the next six years.

Grants are given to local water commissions or water supply municipalities to extend their service to First Nations, said a Friday news release. The program aims to eliminate long-term drinking water advisories and create sustainable drinking water on reserves.
