Earlier this year WayForward Technologies announced Shantae 5, and later shared the game’s stylish animated intro, but actual detail about how the new adventure will play have been hard to come by. Well, that changes now! First off, Shantae 5 now has an official title – Shantae and the Seven Sirens – and we now have a pretty good idea how the game will operate, courtesy of the game’s first screenshots. Check ’em out, below.
So yeah, the game is clearly running on the same engine as 2016’s Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, which isn’t a bad thing, as that game was a lot of fun. Seven Sirens will be bringing some new things to the table, including 4K visuals, a new card-based upgrade system, and, of course, more animal transformations. Interestingly, WayForward also promises an “interconnected” world, hinting the Seven Sirens may return to the Metroidvania-style level design of earlier Shantae titles. Formerly referred to as Shantae 5, Shantae and the Seven Sirens sends the belly-dancing, hair-whipping, half-genie hero to a tropical island where Shantae and her friends encounter other Half-Genie allies, but they soon learn there’s trouble in paradise. As Shantae gets caught up in the island’s sinister secrets, she’ll use all-new dance abilities and instant-transformation Fusion Magic to explore the nonlinear, interconnected world where she’ll visit multiple towns, overcome treacherous labyrinths, and battle dastardly bosses. The game also features a new collectible card system that grants players the freedom to augment Shantae’s powers to suit their own style of play.
