The Spectacles 3 also feature a new design with circular lenses
Makes of the ephemeral messaging app Snapchat, Snap today launched the Spectacles 3 with dual HD cameras and a refreshed design. In addition to this, the Spectacles 3 cameras also support 3D capture.
Spectacles 3 features
Talking about the highlights of Spectacles 3, Snap has added a second HD camera to the mix. This equips the AR-backed glasses to capture depth information, allowing Snap to utilise this data for its new 3D effects. Snap says that these 3D effects will be exclusive to Spectacles 3. Third-party developers will be allowed to create new depth effects for Spectacles 3 later this year.
In terms of design, the Spectacles 3 sport a refreshed new look with tinted circular lenses with a squared frame on the top. The frame is made of steel and has adjustable tips.
Users can capture photos and videos by tapping on a button on top of the glasses. Captured photos and videos can be synced with both Android and iOS devices, which can then be edited in Snapchat before sending them to friends. Apart from this, users can also export the captured photos and videos to share them on other services, including YouTube.
In terms of battery life, Snap says that the Spectacles 3 can capture more than 200 photos and 70 videos on a single charge. The 4GB storage allows you to save up to 1,200 photos or 100 videos.
Spectacles 3 price
Snap’s third-gen augmented reality glasses are expensive and limited – the Spectacles 3 cost more than twice as much as the Spectacles 2. For reference, the Spectacles 2 were priced at $150. The Spectacles 3, on the other hand, cost $380, which is more than a 150% increase in the price.
Justifying its pricing, Snap executives have reportedly stated that Spectacles 3 are aimed at a smaller group of “fashion-forward” types.
