Never have the rhythms of hockey been so disrupted as in the year of our COVID 2020. It’s mid-September, rookie camp should just be winding down and full training camp set to start on the 15th. Right?

Yeah, no.

We do have hockey in Edmonton and plenty of it; alas, none of it features our Oilers. Instead, we have an American-based representative from each of the NHL’s four divisions currently fighting it out in the conference finals, the winners to play for all of the marbles later in the month and possibly as late as Oct 04. Only then can the rest of the hockey year

unfold as it should

, with the NHL Draft currently set for Tue-Wed Oct 06-07, and free agency season opening just two days later on Oct 09 — a Friday morning, for goodness sake.
