A federal Conservative government would push for a private sector-led COVID-19 recovery to balance the budget in 10 years, Opposition Leader Erin O’Toole said Monday.

In a virtual address to the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, O’Toole said if elected he would restart the economy by supporting small businesses.

“We plan to rebuild the main streets of Edmonton, of Bowmanville, in all of Canada by assisting some of the small businesses struggling now, providing incentives to invest in, rebuild or even start new businesses,” said O’Toole, referring to a town east of Toronto.

O’Toole did not offer specifics, but promised a Conservative government would wind down major emergency spending and address
