Welcome back to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys athlete of the week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances between April 18-24.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Colin Dhaliwal, Menlo School baseball: The junior struck out 15, walked one and allowed one earned run over six innings as Menlo defeated Harker 8-1 in Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division play. He also knocked in a run in that game and one in Menlo’s 8-0 win over Harker later in the week.

Jurrion Dickey, Valley Christian track and field: The football star leaped a Central Coast Section-leading 23-9 1/4 at the CCS Top meet. The mark is a personal record for the four-star wide receiver (247Sports) and ranks No. 7 in the state this season, according to results reported to athletic.net. Dickey is a junior.

Anthony Martinez, De La Salle baseball: The senior had at least one hit in all three games during the week as De La Salle moved into first place in the East Bay Athletic League. In a 4-0 win over Foothill, Martinez homered. The UC Irvine commit also went 1 for 2 with two RBIs in an 8-2 win over Amador Valley and 2 for 3 with an RBI in a 6-2 victory over Granada. Martinez ended the week batting .352 this season with five home runs.

Darrell Mays, Berkeley baseball: The senior helped lead Berkeley to a two-game sweep of Castro Valley. In a series-opening 7-2 victory, Mays went 4 for 4 with three doubles and scored four runs. In a 6-1 win three days later, Mays was 2 for 2 and scored a run as the Yellowjackets improved to 14-5 overall and 6-0 in the West Alameda County Conference.

Yutaka Roberts, El Camino track and field: Improved his Central Coast Section-leading time in the 800, running the two-lap race at the CCS Top 8 meet in a personal-record 1:51.04. The time ranks No. 5 in the state this season, according to results reported to …read more
