LIVERMORE — A 17-year-old Livermore boy was in county Juvenile Hall after his arrest this week on suspicion of murder in connection with a 15-year-old Richmond girl’s fatal shooting earlier this month — and a relative was being held for allegedly helping the boy evade arrest, authorities said.
Around 8 p.m. April 15, police responded to a caller’s report of an injured and unconscious girl seen in a vehicle at Collier Canyon Road and Meritage Common in a North Livermore neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found the girl, who was pronounced dead by Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department firefighters at the scene.
Her death was the city’s first homicide of the year. Police refused to identify the victim in their statement Thursday, citing the ongoing investigation.
A day later, police identified a person of interest in the killing, and pursued an investigation with help from Hayward police.
In a statement Thursday, police said the unidentified boy was arrested around 6 p.m. Tuesday at a motel on Foothill Boulevard in Hayward.
A day later, a 44-year-old relative of the boy was detained in a traffic stop at North Canyons Parkway and Collier Canyon Road. She was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact.
The relative was in custody Thursday at Santa Rita Jail on $100,000 bail and faced a Friday arraignment hearing at Dublin’s East County Hall of Justice, according to a county records check.
Police released few details about their ongoing investigation into the circumstances and motive of the killing. They did say the victim and suspect knew each other, and that police investigators allegedly found evidence that the relative knew the boy was sought in the killing and helped him avoid arrest.
Anyone with information about the case can call the Livermore Police Department’s anonymous tip line at 925-371-4790, police said.
