DANVILLE — Tony Battilega has resigned as San Ramon Valley’s baseball coach effective immediately, a school district official confirmed Friday.

No reason was given by the district for the resignation, which Battilega submitted on Thursday.

Assistant coaches Corey Linteo and Paul Gambs will coach the team for the remainder of the season, San Ramon Valley Unified School District spokesperson Ilana Israel Samuels said in an email. SRV is ranked 10th in the latest Bay Area News Group Top 20.

Battilega has not replied to an email for comment.

He has been the head coach at the Danville school for the past three years. On his watch, the program went 31-18 overall and 14-8 in the East Bay Athletic League.

The Wolves are 7-3 in league play this season, two games behind first-place De La Salle with three league games left.

SRV lost to California 6-1 on Wednesday, the team’s third defeat in its past five games. The Wolves are the only team to beat De La Salle, now ranked No. 1 by the Bay Area News Group, in an EBAL game this season.

They continue league play today at home against Granada, then close out the EBAL schedule Wednesday at De La Salle and next Friday at Monte Vista.

SRV is scheduled to visit Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa in a non-league game on Saturday.
