SAN JOSE — A man has been arrested and charged with murder in a shooting death that occurred near a public golf course in East San Jose last month, authorities said.

The shooting was reported the morning of May 17 near South King Road and Hermocilla Way, near the Rancho del Pueblo golf course. Responding officers found a wounded man who died at the scene, according to San Jose police.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Carlos David Tovar.

Wednesday, police announced that 23-year-old San Jose resident Carlos Espinoza was arrested Friday in connection with the shooting. He has since been criminally charged, and was arraigned earlier this week, court records show.

The precise circumstances and motive behind the alleged attack have not been publicly released by investigators.

The killing marked the city’s 11th homicide of the year and occurred during a violent stretch in San Jose saw three fatal shootings in as many days. To date, 14 homicides have been recorded in the city in 2022, with two being reported over the weekend.
