One is dead on the San Mateo Bridge after a lengthy pursuit Wednesday morning ended with the suspect being struck by a vehicle while on foot, according to California Highway Patrol.

The suspect was involved in a pursuit with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in Half Moon Bay early Wednesday before deputies lost track of the suspect’s vehicle on I-280 near Black Mountain.

According to CHP, San Mateo Police Department found the vehicle on Highway 92 eastbound before losing it again near Edgewater. Moments later, officers responded to a call of a pedestrian-involved crash on the San Mateo Bridge, with the victim’s description matching that of the pursued suspect. The suspect’s vehicle was also on sight, CHP says.

According to CHP, the suspect’s vehicle may have ran out of gas, causing them to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot before they were struck by a passing vehicle. The suspect was pronounced dead on scene.

Update: It appears the Ford may have ran out of gas, the suspect left the Ford to continue on foot and was struck by a passing vehicle. The pursuit was terminated before the San Mateo Bridge when San Mateo PD lost visual near Edgewater.

One lane of SR-92 eastbound is currently shut down.

CHP Redwood City, the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office and the San Mateo Police Department have been unable to reach for comment.
