Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been hospitalized after tripping and falling at a Washington D.C. hotel during a private dinner.

“This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment,” a spokesperson for McConnell told Insider on Wednesday evening.

McConnell, 81, was dining at the Waldorf Astoria when he fell, according to John Bresnahan, co-founder of political daily Punchbowl News.

Further details on McConnell’s prognosis have not been released.

The GOP leader in 2019 fractured his shoulder after tripping on the outside patio of his Kentucky residence.

McConnell was born in February 1942, and is one of the oldest lawmakers in the US Senate.
