A 14-year-old girl from Springfield Township, Michigan was hospitalized in critical but stable condition Wednesday after an Illinois man she met online allegedly stabbed her for refusing to have sex with him, officials said.
The alleged assailant, 18, is in the Oakland County Jail following his arrest early Wednesday morning in Waterford Township where he reportedly fled after the stabbing. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect told detectives he was angry with the girl because she wouldn’t have sex with him, so he attacked her with a knife.
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office is considering a charge of assault with intent to commit murder, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the stabbing happened at a home in the 6000 block of North Bay Road in Springfield Township. Deputies responding to a 911 call from the girl’s parents found her with multiple stab wounds to her back and midsection, lying on the floor. The parents weren’t home at the time of the stabbing but rushed back after receiving a call from their daughter, who told them what had happened.
A younger sibling was in the home asleep when the stabbing took place, the sheriff’s office said.
The girl reportedly told authorities she and the suspect met on a social media website and discussed him coming to Michigan from his home in Monmouth, Illinois to visit her.
